Iowa's MSTP program has a champion in its corner
"I think the UI is doing everything right.
The new research and education building is top-notch and thoughtfully
designed. New plans for investment in key research areas for the
future are solid, and the right people are being recruited to head
those initiatives. All in all, I think that Iowa is on the right
track."
The University of Iowa is doing everything right, according to David Engman.
Observing the changes to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine
in the last year, Engman believes that the College is on the right track.
"I think the UI is doing everything right. The new research and education
building is top-notch and thoughtfully designed. New plans for investment in
key research areas for the future are solid, and the right people are being recruited
to head those initiatives. All in all, I think that Iowa is on the right track.
The UI Carver College of Medicine leadership has done a terrific job in communicating
the mission to the community and making faculty and students feel involved."
As chair of the College's Medicine Alumni Society Board of Advisors, Engman
is involved in this mission and feels that alumni input is valuable.
"I agreed to serve as chair because I believed in the mission of the Board
and the importance of providing feedback to the dean and the College's
administration from the graduates of its various training programs."
Being familiar with MSTP programs across the country, Engman
feels that the UI Carver College of Medicine provides a great graduate
training as
well
as medical
education.
"I'd say that Iowa's MSTP program is among the top 15 in the
country with respect to research and clinical opportunities and program structure.
The research enterprise is very well regarded nationwide and the clinical departments
are top notch."
As a member of the Medicine Alumni Society and being an alumnus
himself, Engman feels that all alumni have a responsibility in
this research
and education enterprise by giving back to their alma mater.
"We have benefited greatly from the education we received at Iowa. We can
do a lot to promote the growth and development of the school as a leading biomedical
research institution. Advising our own students to consider Iowa for training
by making an annual donation to the school and by visiting and participating
in alumni events on campus are all excellent ways to support the College."
