Theresa Brennan, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Brennan was appointed Chief Medical Officer on July 1, 2011. In this capacity she provides leadership in all areas of clinical services, oversees system-wide clinical quality, patient safety, patient/visitor satisfaction and facilitates clinical performance improvement and best practices to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of care.
Dr. Brennan joined the university of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille Carver College of Medicine Faculty in 2001. She served as the Clinical Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine until her appointment as CMO. She is also the Colloton Associate Professor of Clinical Cardiovascular Medicine. She has held a series of leadership roles, including serving as chief resident and chief cardiology fellow, Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Inpatient Units. Vice Chair for Clinical Programs for the Department of Internal Medicine, and Co-Medical Director of the UI Heart and Vascular Center. She continues to actively see and care for patients in the outpatient clinic, the cardiac catheterization laboratory and the cardiovascular intensive care unit.
Dr. Brennan earned a bachelor of science degree from The University of Iowa in 1988 and graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1992. Dr. Brennan is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology, and is included on "The Best Doctors in America" listing.
