Endocrine Surgery Program

About Us
The endocrine surgery program at the University of Iowa has a long history of excellence and innovation. All four of our surgeons are active members in the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and are nationally recognized in the field of endocrine surgery. In the last five years, our group performed over 450 thyroidectomies, 400 parathyroidectomies, 90 adrenalectomies, 60 operations for carcinoid tumors, and 120 operations for neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas. We have a special interest in familial endocrine diseases such as MEN I, MEN IIA and IIB, and familial medullary thyroid cancers.

Expertise
As a group, we have published over 58 articles and 30 book chapters on endocrine surgery topics.

Innovation
Our group pioneered the use of intraoperative PTH monitoring for minimally invasive parathyroid surgery, and laparoscopic adrenalectomies in the State of Iowa.

Discovery
We are focused on the discovery of new knowledge.
