For peds, contact Pharmacy for correct amount of concentrated HCl. Children 5 years and under suggest: 1 mL 6 N HCl for every 100 mL urine produced. Adult minimum: 10 mL of a well-mixed 24 hr urine collected with 25 mL 6N HCl as preservative (preferred) or random urine. Pediatric minimum: 5 mL aliquot of 24 hr collection. | ||

If screening for Neuroblastoma, the following tests need to be ordered: CATNBSU (Catecholamines, Fractionated), DOPNBSU (Dopamine), HVANBSU (Homovanillic Acid), METNBSU (Metanephrines), VMANBSU (Vanillylmandelic Acid). Collection containers available from Pharmacy. VMA, catecholamines and metanephrines may be done on same collection. Propranolol (Inderal) will falsely lower total metanephrines. Labetalol (Normodyne) can falsely elevate the apparent concentration of urine metanephrines. Creatinine done on sample at no additional charge. | ||
