Collection Media:
Light Green top tube (Lithium Heparin)
Minimum:
Adult Preferred Minimum: Two 4 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin)
from patient AND two 4 mL green (sodium heparin or lithium heparin)
from normal control subject drawn at the same time. Client must supply
the normal control.

Adult Absolute Minimum: 5 mL whole blood from patient AND 5 mL whole
blood from control subject drawn at the same time.

Pediatric Minimum: 1 mL patient whole blood and 1 mL control whole
blood.
Rejection Criteria:
Clotted, ambient, or frozen samples. Samples submitted without a normal
control drawn at the same time. Samples greater than 24 hours.
Delivery Instructions:
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.
CRITICAL REFRIGERATED. The sample must be received within 24 hours of
collection. Sample viability is 24 hours only, control and patient
sample must reach reference laboratory within the 24 hour time-frame.

Suggested time for collection: Noon-3:00 p.m. (Bring specimen to
Specimen Control immediately)

Antigen densities cannot be reported unless a normal control sample is
also supplied.

Interpretive Data:
The Neutrophil Receptor Panel measures CD11b, CD15, CD16, and CD18 on
neutrophils. CD11b is the receptor for the C3bi fragment of complement.
CD15 is a ligand for E and P selectins. CD16 is the IgG Fc receptor.
CD11b is an alpha subunit, and CD18 is the beta subunit of Mac-1, also
known as CR3. All of these receptors are normally found on neutrophils.
The percentage of patient neutrophils bearing these receptors is
reported. In addition, the receptor surface density of each antigen is
compared to normal neutrophils and expressed as a percent. Values
outside of the reference interval may correlate with abnormal
neutrophil function. For example, CD18 is decreased or absent in
leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD) type I and CD15 is decreased or
absent in LAD type II.
