SCOR IN MOLECULAR GENETICS OF HYPERTENSION (HL 55006)
Under the direction of the late Dr. Michael J. Brody, a SCOR in Hypertension was funded in 1990. Currently under the direction of Dr. Curt D. Sigmund, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, this program focuses on research related to genetic influences on hypertension. Five of the projects focus on basic research questions and one on a human study. The research team consists of 9 investigators from 4 departments. Funding for the period, 2001-2006, totals $10.7 million (direct and indirect costs).
SCOR IN CYSTIC FIBROSIS (HL 42385)
Currently in the 13th year of a 15-year grant period, this Research Center is under the direction of Dr. Michael Welsh, Professor of Internal Medicine in the Pulmonary Division. The major components of this center include regulation of CFTR CL1 channels by the nucleotide binding domains; phosphorylation-dependent regulation of CFTR Cl- channels; abnormalities of fluid and electrolyte transport by airway epithelia; and genetic and biochemical analysis of cystic fibrosis mutations in yeast. Six investigators from 4 departments participate in this program. The program has 4 projects and 2 cores. The most recent competitive renewal application (1998-2003) has resulted in continued funding of over $8 million for the current five-year period, resulting in a total of $15.1 million in funding of this center since 1988.
SCOR IN ACUTE LUNG INJURY (HL60316)
Under the direction of Dr. Gary W. Hunninghake, Professor of Internal Medicine and Director, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine. This program has an overall focus on sepsis-induced acute lung injury. Four of the projects focus on basic research and the Clinical Core is a human study. The research team consists of twelve investigators from five departments. Funding for the period, 1998-2003, totals $9.2 million (direct and indirect costs).
