Clinical Interests At the University of Iowa we
provide surgical care for pediatric heart anomalies in children of all
ages including premature babies as well as newborns. We have a team
of specialists including pediatric cardiology, intensivists, and
anesthesiologists that all take part in your child’s care. In
addition we treat adults with congenital heart problems and children with
thoracic anomalies.
Surgical procedures performed include:
- Ventricular and atrial septal defects
- Patent ductus arteriosus
- Coarctation of the aorta
- Tetralogy of Fallot
- Atrioventricular canal
- Transposition of great vessels
- Norwood procedure
- Subaortic membrane
- Blalock Taussig shunt
- Glenn shunt
- Fontan procedure
- All complex single ventricle heart disease (including tricuspid
atresia)
- Ross procedure
- Pulmonary valve replacement
- Cardiac transplantation

- Ventricular assist devices for heart failure
