Alumni Interviews:
Kesha Buster, M.D.
Iowa's interdisciplinary curriculum allows her to thrive
"The interdisciplinary curriculum here at the
University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine was one of the reasons
why I chose this school for my medical education. Ideas are reinforced
across classes, the faculty to student ratio is very good, and
being closely connected with the hospital gives students more learning
opportunities. Aside from the curriculum, the faculty and staff
are very friendly and Iowa City is a great place to live."
A nationally ranked program, high board score pass rate and a
friendly, learning-conducive environment is what made Kesha Buster
decide on the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for
her medical education.

According to Buster, there are many things that make the UI Carver
College of Medicine the right choice for anyone contemplating medical
school. The non-competitive
curriculum, helpful faculty and friendly environment make the UI Carver College
of Medicine a competitive program nationally, said Buster.
Buster believes that this reputation must live on and can with
the help of alumni.
"Alumni partnerships and mentorship programs are a great addition to the
medical education here at Iowa. Having experienced alumni to speak with and glean
advice from is a great help for students like myself," Buster said.
She also urges alumni to go back in time to when they were in
the same situation as she and many other medical students.
" When deciding on how you, as an alumnus, can contribute to bettering your
alma mater and the lives of students who attend it, think back to when you were
a student and recall the things you found helpful. Whatever you can provide,
whether it be your time, financial support or resources, you will serve as an
integral part of shaping the foundational experiences of the physicians of tomorrow."
Buster herself has benefited from the generosity of alumni donors.
She is the recipient of the C.T. Brown Scholarship, which is given
in recognition
of academic
excellence, leadership abilities and the enrichment the recipient
will bring
to the UI Carver College of Medicine.
Buster doesn't just have the support of alumni, but also of her family,
especially her husband. She said being married and in medical school really isn't
all that tough, but you do need to work at it.
"My husband is wonderful and encouraging. I think it really helps to have
someone there to come home to at night and someone who will help you out, especially
around the house! It can be tough at times, but what marriage isn't?" For more information:
