Abby Olatunji
A supportive environment complements an outstanding program
"The University of Iowa PA program has been
around for many years and continues to prove itself as one of the
best programs in the nation. The staff is very supportive and really
makes an effort to get to know you as a person, student and professional.
The small class size is also nice because you get to know all your
classmates and become almost like a family during that first year
of training."
A quality education, diversity and opportunities were what Abby Olatunji was looking for
when she came to the University of Iowa. And that's what she found.
"I chose the UI program because of its great reputation
within the profession. Their pass rate on the national certifying
exam was also key to my decision to come here."
That's not all she found, though. She also found a friendly atmosphere,
caring people and valuable resources, all of which were very useful
in her education.

As a student, Olatunji has found that a pass/fail grading system
eliminates much of the competitiveness between classmates. She
commented that her classes are very diversified, and there are
ample opportunities. However, she feels that alumni could be more
involved in the program.
"I think having an organized networking system would be
very helpful, especially as students begin to look for jobs. It
would be nice to have some contacts in certain areas, whether it
be in a certain specialty or geographic area."
In a few years, when she becomes an alumna herself, Olatunji
will encourage other alumni to give back to the institution that
gave them so much.
"I would tell alumni, ‘You have to think about how
much you benefited from your training here, and it would not have
been possible without the help of the alumni at that time. Now
you are the alumnus, and it is time to give back to ensure that
our program remains one of the best programs in the nation and
that students continue to receive the quality of training needed
to live up to the expectations of being a UI PA graduate.'"
